Bobbing Bobber wins at Growler Magazine’s
2018 Kind-of-a-Big-Deal Readers’ Choice Awards

We wanted to share with you all more about this “Kind-of-a-Big-Deal Awards” event this past Sunday. Where to start? OK, so The Growler is a free monthly magazine distributed throughout Minnesota that features craft beer, food, wine, and more.

For the past few years they have had a readers’ choice awards competition called the “Kind-of-a-Big-Deal Awards”. The process involves a nomination round and then a finals round. 2018 is the first year The Growler had an awards ceremony event.

The event was held at Circus Juventas in St. Paul (Highland Park area). The venue was awesome! It is a non-profit group that offers circus arts training to young people ranging from 3 to 21 years old. Think spectacular circus stuff like trapeze and tightrope or Cirque Du Soleil.

The awards event included dinner, awards, and occasional performances by Circus Juventas. Each table held 8 people, we were at luck table #7. Seated with us was the owner of Far North Spirits from Hallock, MN. There were about 200+ attendees. The emcees for the evening were Brian Oake and Jill Riley from The Current 89.3fm.

If you voted you know there were many categories of awards. The craft beer awards were near the end. We knew we were nominated for two categories, Best Minnesota Overall Brewery Taproom and Best Minnesota New Brewery. Overall Brewery Taproom came first.

Best Minnesota Brewery Taproom

The nominees were vast and impressive:
Back Channel Brewing Co
Bad Weather Brewing Company
Barrel Theory Beer Company
Bauhaus Brew Labs
Bent Paddle Brewing
Bobbing Bobber Brewing Company
Fair State Brewing Cooperative
Saint Paul’s Flat Earth Brewing Company
Insight Brewing Company
Lupulin Brewing Company
Surly Brewing Company

The results:
Bronze – Bobbing Bobber Brewing Company
Silver – Surly Brewing Company
Gold – Bent Paddle Brewing Company

This was amazing to us. We opened in May. We are a smaller brewery and taproom, yet you helped us come in third behind two fantastic Minnesota breweries and taprooms! Our budget is far less then a lot of these breweries. Just very exciting.

Next came the New Brewery award.

Best Minnesota New Brewery

Again, many great nominees here:
AEGIR Brewing Company
Boathouse Brothers Brewing Company
Bobbing Bobber Brewing Company
Dual Citizen Brewing Company
Giesenbray Bier Co
Invictus Brewing Company
Spiral Brewery
Wooden Hills Brewing Company
Venn Brewing Company

The results:
Bronze – Invictus Brewing Co
Silver – Venn Brewing Company
Gold – Bobbing Bobber Brewing Company

So in the end, Bobbing Bobber won bronze for Best Minnesota Brewery Taproom and gold for Best Minnesota New Brewery! Hutchinson was also represented well with Crow River Winery taking a silver for Best Minnesota Winery and Liquor Hutch taking a bronze for Best Liquor Store (Greater MN). A great band with local connections, Parachute Pandas, took silver in Best Local Music Group or Band.

The event at Circus Juventas wrapped up after this and we all headed over to the after party at Summit Brewing in St. Paul. They had free pizza and beer for attendees and we got to network a bit more with other Minnesota breweries and distilleries.

We can’t say thank you enough to everyone that got us here! Thank you for your vote! And thanks to our employees for their effort to provide knowledge on craft brewing! You all really helped put Bobbing Bobber Brewing Company on the Minnesota brewing map.
